ABOUT THE ARTIST

Xavier Ferrer. Barcelona, 1965

My mystic
J.V. Foix, a poet of our land, said: “Is when I sleep that I see clear”, paraphrasing him, and modestly, I would tell you, “Is when I paint that I see clear”.

One of the things that I'm able to say with conviction is "painting makes me feel living...". Describe which is the reason that leads me to paint and what I feel when I do that, is something related with a vital need that place me close to myself.
I feel that a piece needs me and I need it, a force at the same time that tangible, everlasting. This makes about the creative instant my unique, intimate, and own space. This force has been near to me since have use of reason. It opens me paths. When I explore them, I meet the forms, the color and the light. The technique happens surprisingly with time, enriches the path and allows day to day to approach me more to an expression that identifies this force.

My way
Never I have been too much near of the academic world of the arts, but I have drunk of many inspiration sources from ancient and actual artists, even from my father who also lives the art in a very introspective way, looking much more inside himself that at the outside world of the art. What most has inspired me of all of them is their unique manner to see the world, a world without the limit of the words, their world, which, last of all, helps us to see the things otherwise. If you prefer, you can say I’m an autodidact about art, yes, I also could think so, cause nobody said me which was the way, so I chose the way that take me nearest to all those feelings I told you before.
Although at the beginning, in my works the technique used was the traditional one, I believe that fortunately about 10 years ago the technique happened unexpectedly digital. Certainly, a thing that I have not yet said to you, by profession I have not dedicated to the arts. I´ve a master degree in computer science, thus I have worked in that for more than 15 years. As I told to you, unexpectedly and fortunately, the two lifelines were found, and since then I have use new technologies as the habitual technique to carry out my art.

My working methods
The creative process splits, often, scanning my drawings, sketches or old paintings, pieces created on the most traditional way, while others are composed from zero and directly on the screen of my computer. Note that I say you “traditional ways” and not created by hand, since with the computer as my brush, I paint by hand, too. Once the incipient work lives digital on the computer, I use computer tools, and as brushes a tablet and digital pens. From this moment, this technique does not have anything of different with any another known.
When I consider finalized the creative process, the work remains completed and only resides in digital format. The work at this stadium is, for me, as unique and exclusive than any another piece of art. What makes this work distinctive, for me, is not its format but the creative process that has guided me to this moment. Although the digital support (that indeed, is also physical) does not let us to see the result as traditionally we use to do, the existing technologies allow us to reproduce and to enjoy visually of the result more easily than ever.

My adventure & choices
One of the things that today this technology, in the field of the digital image, let us is to arrange, see and to enjoy a piece like, up till now, we are usual to do it. Thus, it does be enough go on with the printing process and necessary proofs that carry us to place the piece in a physical and tangible substrate. Usually this piece is extracted from the digital support and placed as a print with archival quality inks (high quality & UV resistant inks), in a canvas or other paper media. It is so the digital piece (bits and bytes keeping the color and the light of each smallest points or pixels of the work) is converted to another presentation media (the whole process someone call it Giclée). From this first physical piece (first signed piece called BAT “bon a tire”) normally a limited edition of copies is done, each one is certificated and signed. Those pieces are the ones that offer who understand that this is an artistic form of expression as valid as any other.
Until today that I write these words, have not exposed never my works in public, only have enjoyed it a very reduced circle of people. Today, encouraged by my wife, I make an important step with the idea of show my work to all of you who want find and appreciate it. This is, this way, an adventure, my adventure.

Truly yours,
